Renewable Energy

In recent years there has been a great deal of concern expressed by several governments around the world over our rapidly diminishing supplies of fossil fuels. Because of this there is an increased demand for renewable energy and huge sums of money have been invested in researching new and improved sources.

One of the most prevalent forms of renewable energy that is commonly used by various nations around the world is wind power. Wind turbines are frequently erected in locations which are subjected to significant prevailing winds and these turbines will constantly generate electricity whilst the wind causes the turbine’s blades to turn. This is an effective form of renewable energy, however the main drawback of this is that a significant quantity of turbines are required in order to generate sufficient electricity to supply power to a town. Also many people believe the wind turbines to be unsightly and object to them being erected in their area. This has let to many off shore wind farms being created, this is ideal as it is constantly windy at sea and they are out of sight.

Solar power is another form of renewable energy that is becoming quite popular in certain parts of the world. Unfortunately solar power can only ever be very effective in countries that have an especially hot climate, although in the UK some people who support renewable energy have had solar panels installed on the roves of their own homes.
